Somali forces killed 19 Al-Shabab militants in a fierce battle Monday morning in Gofgaduud in the outskirts of Baidoa.

Sources told Radio Baidoa the soldiers battled with the militants from 5am to 9am local time. The military lost 8 personnel while five others were injured.
The fighting which lasted for about five hours involved heavy artillery fire causing panic among residents in the area.
The military was able to reclaim control of the base after reinforcements from Baidoa.
The militants, sources said retreated following the advancement of additional soldiers from Baidoa which is located about 30 kilometers from Baidoa.
